One of the biggest factors of success in the travel blogging sphere is consistency. It’s not about the frequency of blog posts as much as it is about regularity, work ethic, and showing up with the same amount of effort each time. A consistent blog post published every week, on the same day, will be more successful than a blog post published every three days. Consistency breeds habit. Showing up to the page and writing down your thoughts in the same mindset and frame of thought every day will help you develop your unique tone and voice. Inconsistency will make your writing a fluke.
If you only write when the mood strikes, you’ll find yourself without much progress. Consistency helps take away the choice of waiting for inspiration to strike. Some days will be better than others, but the act of regularly practicing your craft will help you become a better writer. Some days you’ll have more insightful thoughts than others, but either way, you’ll be practicing and perfecting your writing. What’s more, you’ll be able to develop a good sense of what works and what doesn’t and follow through with it.
By showing up every day and practicing your writing, you can establish a good sense of what works for you and what doesn’t. If you’re only writing every so often when the mood strikes, you won’t be able to see what works and what doesn’t, you’ll only be able to copy and imitate what you see around you. Once you have a good sense of what works for you, you can use it and you’ll have the ability to apply it with more speed and accuracy.
Consistency is also about knowing when to hold back. Not everything you write is great. Some blog posts are meant to be kept to yourself and others are meant to be trashed. Some ideas shouldn’t be developed into full-blown blog posts, and that’s okay. Not only is it okay, but it’s preferred. Learning to choose what you publish will help you to have a more cohesive blog. Knowing what to post and what not to post will give your blog the ability to feel like it’s talking to your readers, that there’s a human behind it who’s pouring their heart out into every blog post.
Consistency is about working on your blog posts regularly, but it’s also about making a good effort each time. Inconsistency in your work will be felt by your readers. They will be able to tell when you’re not putting in enough effort. When you are consistently pouring your heart out into your blog, your readers will be able to feel it. They will be able to sense it and know that you’re not bullshitting them. When you’re not bullshitting your readers, they’ll reward you for it. They’ll share your blog with their friends and family, they’ll comment, they’ll engage. A reader will only be able to do that if you’ve put in the effort to make your blog and every single blog post the best it can possibly be.
